Blood. I despise blood. It’s gooey, gross and makes me swoon. If you even think about taking my blood I will whoosh be gone. But without blood flowing in my veins I would die. But the blood of Jesus on the cross was painful, gooey, and gross. Sin separates me from God’s holiness. According to the Bible, God created perfect human beings named Adam and Eve who then sinned and passed it on to the rest of humans…forever. Sin is anything that separates us from God’s holiness. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23. Throughout the old testament any time someone sinned a perfect animal was killed and blood was shed. I know it sounds gross. And it is. But then Jesus said, no more. “But God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” Romans 5:8. Jesus came as the perfect sacrifice. “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once and for all, having obtained eternal redemption” Hebrews 9: 11-12. That’s the kind of love that spans human understanding. Jesus is God. He didn’t have to shed His own blood. But He was the only perfect sacrifice. God is so holy. Sin is a disaster. Don’t for a minute think that your sin doesn’t matter. Every sin ever committed was blood-shed, pain bore. Think about it. Jesus Christ is perfect, holy and the definition of righteous. He could’ve left me in my sin. But Jesus said, You are worth it. He proved it by becoming human and dying. What kind of love is that? You can never pay for sin. But Jesus did. In full. Accept His gift and follow Him. JESUS is enough, completely enough. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the rights to become children of God to those who believe on His name” John 1:12.
“This the power of the cross
Christ became
Sin for us
Took the pain
Bore the wrath
We stand
Forgiven
At the Cross”.
“The Power of the Cross” written by Stuart Townsend and Keith Getty.
“Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
The great High priest
Whose name is love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is written on His hands
My name is graven on His heart
I know that while in Heavan He stands
No tounge can bid me thence depart.
When satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end to all my sin
Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon Me.
Alleluia
Alleluia
Praise the One Risen Son of God.
Behold Him there the risen Lamb
My perfect Spotless
Righteousness
The great Unchangeable I AM
One with Himself I cannot die
My sinful soul is counted Free.
For God the just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon Me
To look on Him and pardon me.
